Kate's Kart is a not-for-profit organization that supplies brand new, free books to hospitalized children to keep for their enjoyment. Their goal is to "provide a comforting diversion to hospitalized children and their families, and to foster a love of books, and ultimately literacy, by encouraging children to read and parents to read to their children." The gift of a book to a sick child is a beautifully simple yet profound act of caring that can instantly brighten that child's day.
We felt we needed a big banner to fly in order to bring attention to our campaign and nothing says big like a 200 mile relay! Our team consists of 12 members. We will divide into 2 vans. Each person will run between 13-20 miles broken up over 3 legs. It'll be quite the challenge but we've got a great group.
After the race, team captain Gabe Arnold posted: Everyone gave everything they had and then some just to battle through the distance, the lightning which delayed us for a bit, and the terrible heat. We truly have a lot to be thankful for and the fact that we all came out of it in fairly decent shape is a true blessing.
We're also tremendously thankful to our numerous private donors who have helped push our fundraiser to heights we never expected, our business sponsors and supporters ( Ash Brokerage, Don Ayres, Kelley Automotive, The TinCaps, The Komets, The Mad Ants, Mike's Car Wash, Pro Seal & Plastics, Coldwell Banker Roth Wehrly Graber, 1b Specialty, Parkview Sports Medicine, and Cap n' Cork who was our first donor who gave us a shot), but most of all, our families who supported us with our training, the time away this weekend, with their donations, and with their love. We simply couldn't have done any of this without all of these wonderful people. It's pretty special to see this come together so successfully and the most important thing is that our success benefits such an amazing cause, Kate's Kart.
